At the time of writing (June 1st 2014), one of own longest contributing authors is very ill in hospital in Mexico. He is 84 and suffering terminal Lung Cancer. His name is Walter Dioni, and he has laboured intensively against a background of near zero finances and using only basic equipment to offer his expert advice freely to many thousands of people. No contributor to Micscape Magazine is paid. Contributors work is entirely driven by an aim to share what they
know freely with others.
We know that a lot of Walter's articles are freely available on the pages and library of Micscape Magazine but considered many enthusiast microscopists might appreciate having a consolidated series of his articles to hand when trying out some of his techniques. We also thought we would like to try and leave a small legacy to his surviving children in Mexico - not a wealthy country as you know. To this end, we have published the first of several intended books of his work: 'Slide Mounting'.
The book combines articles written over 10 years when Walter was experimenting with and testing several mounting mediums using non-volatile, safe and easy to obtain chemicals. Please note that any proceeds will be accumulated and transferred to his daughter Alicia in Mexico for family disbursement. Although this will probably be nominal, it will at least be helpful.
You might note that we have been obliged to use web based images inside the book and these may be more pixellated than when seen on your screen in non-printed form. They are also in B&W to keep the book affordable for all. But the main importance of the work is within the text, where Walter describes many different mixes for slide mountants and their durability.
