Leaf Vein

This image shows a vascular bundle from the midrib of a leaf. The xylem -{1} is situated above the phloem towards the upper surface. Beneath this point, cambium -{2} is present - which will have originally divided to produce xylem and phloem -{3}.

The very large cells surrounding the whole structure are parenchyma cells -{4}.

Note that the colours and shades in this image are not truly representational of the true colours of a 'stained' plant tissue. This is a result of reducing the number of colours in the image to reduce file size.
