the new wing of the Insectarium:

The Insect Portrait Gallery

Insects are great subjects for microscopy. All their amazing features can be examined under a dissecting microscope.

Normally a micro lens gives a very shallow depth of field. By digitally combining many images with different focus layers, so-called 'stacking', this depth of field can be greatly enhanced.

The Insect Portrait Gallery of the Micropolitan Museum makes use of these techniques to exhibit the insects' attractive personalities, the wide variety of characteristic faces and some of their anatomical secrets.
