Pelomyxa palustris, a large amoeboid protist. Its cell can measure 5 mm in length. It may have thousands of nuclei. Unlike other protists and higher organisms this pelobiont lacks mitochondria and instead relies upon a symbiotic relationship with methanogenic bacteria.
